About Zheni Warner

Originally from Bourgas, Bulgaria, Zheni came to the UK in 1975 following her marriage. She studied for four years at what was then Norwich School of Art and Design, where she later taught life drawing. She established her own art classes from home, being particularly successful at preparing students for public examinations and for entry to art school.

Over the intervening years she has exhibited extensively in the UK (including in five cathedrals) as well as in Switzerland, France and more recently in Germany where her painting is proving particularly popular. As a consequence her work is to be found in private collections in most countries in western Europe as well as in China, Australia, South Africa and the USA.

Her use of layers of colours builds up to a transparent surface, emphasised by the excitement and brilliant use of paint in their form. A French critic described her paintings as having “the colours of Rubens and the rhythms of Bartok”. English critics have variously described them as “a concerto in colour”, “aqueous jewels” and “fluorescent, floating entablatures of scintillating colour”.

The current works incorporate light boxes, neon and illuminated wire in a variety of combinations. All of them function happily as paintings in their own right, becoming a second painting once they are illuminated. The use of matte and reflective paint surfaces add yet anothe dimension to give an intruiging variety as changing light conditions and the position of the viewer interact.
